A publishing house as an invitation to break out
Escapist is a fictional publishing concept for adventure and outdoor literature by independent authors. The publications invite you to escape – from everyday life, the city, the screen – and whet your appetite for nature, vastness and stories.
Challenge
The focus was on developing an independent visual identity for a real or fictitious publishing house. The design challenge was to make the feeling of freedom and inner awakening tangible and to translate the concept of ‘escaping’ not only in terms of content, but also visually and spatially in print and digitally.
Solution
The central design element is the die-cut ‘Loophole’, a window into another world, which runs through all media as a leitmotif and symbolises curiosity and new beginnings. The appearance combines reduced typography, natural colours and tactile print details. The Loophole can be physically experienced on the covers. Digitally, it is staged through a vertically scrollable image navigation, in which the hole in the logo remains visible. The gallery also serves as navigation – each image leads directly to the story associated with.
A distinctive publishing concept that seamlessly blends content, medium, and interaction into a unified experience. The design acts as an open invitation to slow down, reflect, and embrace new perspectives, encouraging moments of escape from the familiar.
With its carefully curated multimedia presence, the project balances visual serenity and narrative intrigue, sparking curiosity while offering space for contemplation.
